Deployment Journal/Blog Week 16

Yes, you read correctly…week 16! I’m a huge slacker for not writing a blog in so long, but seriously people…do you want to know every mundane detail of my life? I’m going to answer that for you by saying, NO, you don’t! So, after a 4 week hiatus, I believe I have enough information to fill this journal entry.

The holiday season is crazy, even if you don’t have much of a life, am I right?! We made it through Thanksgiving without Hannah-who, by the way, had an incredible week of spoiling at her biological grandparents’ house. They went to Disney on Ice, indoor putt-putting, the movies and many other fun things. Also, she received an Acer Notebook laptop and a Kodak digital camera as guilt-gifts, so she made out like a bandit! And yes, if you thought you interpreted bitterness there, you were correct…

Due to the fact that I’m leaving on Dec. 15th for my parent’s house and the 13th is the night of my play at church, we are going to have Christmas with me, the kids and Earl on skype this Sunday morning! I’ve been finding tons of deals on, which is just like craigslist, and ordered stuff on ebay, so I hardly had to leave the house to go shopping! The kids aren’t getting a ton of stuff this year due to the fact that they’re in need of NOTHING! Being in a craigslist/garage-sale addict’s home is like living in a year-round state of Christmas. When you see a leapster for 25.00 including games, you buy it, even if it isn’t someone’s birthday! So, they’re getting a few toys/games each and that’s it.

As if having Christmas this Sunday and 2 play- practices next week and the play next Sunday aren’t enough, Hannah is having a sleepover tomorrow night to celebrate her birthday. We’ll be at my parents for 3 weeks, so her birthday falls right in the middle of that on the 22nd. We’ll have a small family party there, but this way she can celebrate with girls her age. They’re doing the usual sleepover stuff-pizza, cake, popcorn, movies, dancing, singing, gifts…you get the idea. I’ll probably get up Saturday morning and make pancakes-a sleepover tradition my mom started. I must say, my mom was so great to always let us have friends over, and I’m so happy to do the same for my kids. They see so much of me and their siblings, it’s good for them to socialize with other kids.

Also, two ladies I know had surgery this week, so we’re taking dinner to one of them Saturday evening, and the other on Monday evening. I’m going to go the KISS route with those (Keep It Simple Stupid), and do tator tot casserole and easy sides. I just know how very much meals have meant to me in the past and I consider it a ministry I can do easily as a mom.

Earl and I are doing so well as a couple, in case you wonder how this deployment is affecting us. We’ve had a few small tiffs-as every couple does-but being apart has made us both realize how we love each other so very much and how blessed we are to be married to our best friend. We are also very blessed to have such wonderful friends and family that we do. My grandparents are working on a Christmas package for Earl, and lots of you sent Earl an email over Thanksgiving break, which was great for him. He loves to hear stories about your lives, kids, anything to distract him from the boredom of downtime in Iraq! I hope you’re all doing well…look for my next blog from Queensbury, NY, where I’ll be over Christmas break. This is when we went to Denny’s and the kids were each given a toy by a good Samaritan.
